Nearly 90 bowlers took part in a tenpin bowling tournament hosted by Special Olympics Surrey over the weekend.

The one-day sporting event was part of the borough’s cultural programme for the Olympics and Paralympics.

Special Olympic teams from all over the country including Yorkshire, Wales and St Albans took part in the tournament at Charrington Bowl in Tolworth on September 1.

Gold, silver and bronze medals were all up for grabs in the categories of singles, doubles and teams.

The Surrey Special Olympics Dream Team that appeared on television this year picked up the top team prize.

Organiser Sue Frett said: "Sport always brings out the best in people whether you are disabled or able bodied.

"How good it has been to see athletes with a learning disability competing in the Paralympics in athletics, swimming and table tennis.

"I will be delighted when tenpin bowling gets to the Paralympics."
