A blind football fanatic fulfilled his lifelong ambition of experiencing his favourite team in action and even got to sit near Olympic legend Usain Bolt.

Sai Thievemdram, 22, who lives in Swail House, independent accommodation for the blind in Epsom, visited Old Trafford, the home of Manchester United, for their first match of the season last month.

The visit was made possible by the Epsom Home Instead Senior Care’s Epsom branch, which gave its season tickets to Mr Thievemdram and his care-giver from the organisation, Cheryl Morgan.

Home Instead’s services range from companionship, meal preparation, housekeeping, post-discharge care, personal care, medication reminders, shopping and errands for those in need of care.

A client of two years, Mr Thievemdram is visited by Ms Morgan for 10 hours a week and takes part in fun activities like football and Indian drumming, as well as helping with household chores.

The football fan, who had never experienced his team play in a live football game before and was sat just a few rows behind Usain Bolt, said: "When I was told I was going to a Man U game, I was so excited and overwhelmed, I couldn’t wait to get to the stadium.

"Manchester United ended up winning 3-2, it was such a great end to an amazing day.

"I can’t thank Home Instead enough for giving me this fantastic surprise, I’ll remember it for a long time to come."

The audio commentary system was not working at the ground so Paul Tame, the owner of Epsom’s Home Instead and the chauffeur for the day, stepped in to provide a running commentary - described by Mr Thievemdram as being "like listening to commentator John Motson".
