Surrey Police have this afternoon confirmed that items found at murdered Saad Al-Hilli's house were not hazardous.
A bomb disposal unit was called to the scene to assess the situation after items were found in a search of garden outbuildings at the home in Oaken Lane, Claygate.
The road was cordoned off and homes evacuated at about 9.30am
The items were found on the third day of French investigators examining the Al-Hilli family home.
A Surrey Police spokesman said: "The extension to the cordon has now been lifted and residents who were evacuated earlier as a precaution are now being allowed to return to their homes.
"A cordon around the house and gardens will remain in place as the search of the property continues following the deaths of four people in southern France."
