Firefighters were called to a small fire in a basement flat in South Norwood yesterday evening.
The crews from Woodside and Beckenham fire station were called to Selhurst Road at about 6.10pm.
One woman living in the property escaped uninjured before crews arrived, but was taken to hospital suffering from smoke inhalation.
Five percent of the flat was damaged by fire, and the cause is under investigation.
Firefighters praised the woman for having a working smoke alarm in her home.
