Prince Charles and the Duchess of Cornwall have visited riot hit businesses a year on from the disorder.

The Prince of Wales and his wife Camilla last came to Croydon in the aftermath of the August riots last year, speaking with some of those worst hit along London Road.

Mirroring that occasion, the Royal couple were at Croydon Voluntary Action on London Road, which acted as a hub for lending support to those impacted by the disorder this morning.

They then moved on to Surrey Street to talk with traders, including new cafe Matthew’s Yard, set up following the riots.

The pair will then officially unveil a plaque at the new university centre attached to Croydon College.

The college, which has formed a strong partnership with the University of Sussex, will make a presentation about its work before the new centre is opened.

Croydon College’s principal and chief executive, Frances Wadsworth said: "Staff and students are thrilled that we have such an opportunity to showcase the impact that Croydon College makes on its local community in a range of ways.

"The opening of University Centre Croydon is a real positive not just for the College but for Croydon as a whole."
