Black gay rights activist to talk in Croydon

Veteran gay rights campaigner Ted Brown has been lined up to give a talk as part of Black History Month.

The American-born activist, who grew up in south London, experienced prejudice both because of his race and also his sexuality but despite this joined the Gay Liberation Front as a 20-year-old in 1970.

Since then he has been an active campaigner against both racism and homophobia, and founded the campaign group Black Lesbians and Gays Against Media Homophobia.

His work was recognised when he received a Lifetime Achievement Award in 2007 from at the Black Lesbian and Gay Community Awards.

The talk, which is free for all, will be at The Spreadeagle Pub, Katharine Street, Croydon from 8pm on Tuesday October 2.
