School pupils were held back from leaving for nearly half-an-hour on Monday while police hunted suspects believed to have fled from a stolen car nearby.

Students at Oasis Academy Coulsdon in Homefield Road, were kept in school until 3.20pm, while officers pursued two men who ran off after crashing a car in Court Avenue.

A statement on the school's website said: "Students were held at the Academy on Monday September 24 on police advice.

"Once we received notification it was safe for students to leave the building they were dismissed by year group."

A police spokesman said following a search of the area two men, believed to be in their teens, were arrested.
