Squatters obey new laws Squatters obey new laws

Squatters have been evicted from houses in Crystal Palace and Oval using newly passed legislation.

Twelve people agreed to leave a house, in Farquhar Road in Gipsy Hill, after being threatened with arrest on September 8.

About a week later six squatters were evicted from a house, in Thorne Road near the Oval.

On the same day two men, aged 42 and 29, were evicted from another house, in Mawbey Street, Stockwell, and arrested for theft of police handcuffs found at the property.

Acting Chief Inspector Nick Fallowfield said: “No sooner was this legislation revised when officers began finding ways to use it to resolve the issues facing our communities.”
