A woman has won £1,000 after leaving a heartfelt message to her husband in a shop window.

Moira Brown entered the competition at The Card Shop in Central Parade, New Addington, in which contestants were asked to display a message of love.

The 57-year-old wrote a message of love and survival to her husband of 40-years, Dennis, 60.

The message read: "Darling Den. So they all said we wouldn't last. 40 years later we're still together and love each other, forever and always. Moira."

Her loving entry was chosen as the winner from hundreds of entries across the country in the 'When you Love Someone, Let Everyone Know' competition, run by Me to You cards.

The couple who have three grandchildren, live in Wolsey Crescent met by chance at the Man on the Moon, marrying just three weeks later at Croydon registry office.

Mrs Brown said: "My family didn't take to him, so I had a big fall out with my family. I ended up leaving home at 17.

"His family didn't take to me either, I remember his sister saying to me 'He is never going to stay with you.'

Speaking about the competition, she added: "I have always loved the cards, I thought the competition was to win a Me to You bear.

"I was so excited and so shocked when they rang and told me I had won £1,000- I have never won anything in my life."

The couple have decided to put the money towards a trip to Disney World for their grandchildren next year.
