Croydon has struck gold in the annual London in Bloom competition.

Five of the borough’s parks picked up certificates at the awards ceremony at Pembroke Lodge, Richmond Park.

Coombe Wood, Wettern Tree Garden and Happy Valley all received gold in their categories of Large Park of the Year, Small Park of the Year and Country Park of the Year.

Haling Grove and Westow Park also won silver awards.

Croydon Cemetery was also successful. It received a gold award in the Cemetery of the Year category.

Councillor Phil Thomas, cabinet member for highways and environmental services, said: "These achievements are a fantastic advert for Croydon’s green credentials.

"Not only do the awards recognise the attractive parks we have in the borough, they are also a fitting tribute to the hard work that goes into maintaining our green spaces."
