Met Police issue warning as nights get longer
With the nights drawing in, the Met Police is warning residents to be vigilant against burglary, robbery and anti-social behaviour.
The awareness campaign, Autumn Nights, focuses on providing advice to people on how to stay safer during the autumn and winter.
Detective Superintendent Simon Letchford, in charge of Autumn Nights, said: "As well as operational plans to address these crime challenges, the intention is to direct Safer Neighbourhood teams and other local police resources to key risk dates and events on each borough.
"The Met takes burglary seriously - we want people to feel safe in their homes and in their communities and we are committed to catching burglars. We will use all methods and technology available to us to do so.”
Halloween and Bonfire Night have both been identified as key dates when resident can be at risk.
The Met Police advise
1. Mark property with you postcode or address to help recovery if stolen.
2. Register items with a serial number.
3. Do not leave keys or ID documents near a door letterbox or window.
4. Check who is at the door before opening.
5. Always lock all doors and windows if going out.
6. Keep valuables out of sight.
7. Leave some lights on.
8. Fit a mortice lock on the front door.
9. Keep sheds and garages locked.
10. Cancel milk deliveries if you will be away for long periods.

It's good of the police to warn us - It's just too bad they have to run around after the same early release repeat offenders all the time.
So what if a third of all arrests in london are of foreigners, we can afford it!
