Former Eastenders actress Corinne Skinner Carter will present her memoirs in Croydon this month as part of Black History Month.

Carter, who played landlady Audrey Trueman, will be signing copies of her book, Why Not Me? From Trinidad to Albert Square via Empire Road, at Central Library on Saturday 27 October, beween 2.15pm and 3.45pm.

In a career spanning more than 50 years, other credits include Live and Let Die, Cleopatra, Burning an Illusion and Prime Suspect.

She also appeared in the 1970s BBC TV series, Empire Road, the first black soap on British TV.

Councillor Vidhi Mohan, cabinet member for communities and economic development, said: “Corinne will be a familiar face to many people from her various acting roles and her life story is a fascinating one.

This is a great opportunity for people to meet her in person and hear her talk about her new book.

“We’re delighted that she has chosen to come here during Black History Month to help Croydon celebrate the huge diversity of our borough as we look back at the heritage of a large part of our local community.”

The event is free but you should book your place at blackstockmedia.eventbrite.co.uk.
