A 37-year-old man has been jailed for two-and-a-half years for the manslaughter of his neighbour who died three weeks after he was assaulted at the YMCA.
Rajendra Patel, 48, died 15 days after he was attacked by Daniel Bannister at the hostel in Lansdowne Road, Croydon, on February 21.
The 48-year-old was taken to hospital where he was treated for bruising and swelling to the left side of his face, a broken nose and a fractured ankle.
Three weeks later he died of a pulmonary thromboembolism, due to deep venous thrombosis of the left femoral vein due to a recent fracture of his left ankle, which was treated with a plaster cast.
Bannister was due to stand trial this week accused of Mr Patel's murder, but pleaded guilty to manslaughter, which was accepted by the Crown Prosecution Service this morning.
