Supermarket staff held a food appeal at the weekend with one staff member dressing up as a hot dog.
Sainsbury’s Crystal Palace, Selhurst Park, took part in the second annual Million Meal Appeal, a national food drive that will help to support vulnerable Croydon residents.
Customers could choose to donate an item from a shopping list which consisted of long-life products.
Julia MacLean, who dressed up as a hot dog to help promote the appeal, said: "Here at Crystal Palace we managed to fill one and three quarter boxes.
"The company then matches that so we will have a total of three boxes. That is enough to feed 3000 hungry people in our local community."
The Olympic Torch will also be visiting the store on Saturday, October 13, from 3.30pm to 5.30pm.
