New Addington was plunged into traffic chaos on Monday after a bus got stuck trying to do a three point turn.

The driver of this T33 bus, took a wrong turn up Lodge Lane on Monday during morning rush hour, and tried to remedy the situation by turning round.

But after doing half the job, the bus got stuck on the verge and blocked the main road that leads in and out to New Addington for several hours.

Fieldway’s councillor, Simon Hall, said: "I don’t think the bus driver knew the area too well. He tried to turn the bus around and got it seriously wrong.

"The road was blocked for around two hours so you can imagine the chaos it caused, especially during rush hour. It was a major problem."

A Transport for London spokeswoman said: "At around 6:20 on Monday morning an out of service T33 bus operated by Abellio missed a turn into New Addington.

"The driver attempted to turn around but unfortunately the vehicle got stuck. A tow truck was called and the bus was moved as quickly as possible. A full investigation is being carried out."
