Two Croydon Guides are celebrating after receiving Jack Petchey Achievement Awards.

Lily Devereux from South and Upper Norwood unit and Zoe Stabeler from Central Unit were among 86 guiders presented with awards at Trinity School on October 8.

The event honoured achievement award winners aged between 11 and 25, who received medallions to go with their framed certificates and a cheque for £200.

Lily, 12, was awarded after she was selected by the Juvenile Diabetes Research foundation to participate in a lobbying event in Westminster, earlier this year.

Zoe, 15, who has been with the unit for five years, received her award in recognition of the skills she has developed, despite having ADHD.

Mayor of Croydon Councillor Eddy Arram attended the event.

He said: “. As Mayor I get to see what young people are putting back into the community. I certainly have no worries about Croydon for the future and we are in your safe hands! I, and the people of Croydon, are proud of your achievements. Thank you all very much.”
