Firefighters were called to a fire in a church in South Croydon early yesterday morning.

Three fire engines were called to St Gertrude's Church on Purley Road, at 0.14am.

Fifteen firefighters tackled the blaze in the church and residential accommodation, which was brought under control just before 1am.

There were no rescues or injuries during the incident.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
