A supermarket giant has confirmed it plans to open its seventh branch in the borough later this year.
Tesco will open an Express shop on the site of the once-troubled The Angel pub in Angel Hill, Sutton, late in the summer, the chain has said.
The supermarket firm has owned the pub since 2011 but a fire not long after it bought the site delayed its plans.
When the shop opens it will be Sutton's seventh Tesco on top of branches in Worcester Park, Brighton Road, Malden Road, North Cheam, Cheam and Wallington.
The Angel was shut down by Sutton magistrates for selling alcohol to children in 2011 and had been linked to drug dealing gangs.
The pub had also been sanctioned for making too much noise and failing to control patrons as they left.
