A final push is needed for a campaign to save a pub described as a "lifeline" for the community.

June Fraser called on residents to help save the Worcester Park Tavern, which was put up for sale on Thursday, May 10, by owners Spirit Pub Company.

The childminder and DJ is running a petition, which has so far gained more than 300 signatures, but said she would be ending it in the next week as she fears the landmark pub could be knocked down for flats.

She said: "It could vanish overnight so we really must start making moves.

"We could just arrive one morning and it’s all boarded up. That would be awful.

"We are going to run it for one more week then I will present it to Kingston Council. I want to stop the change of use."

The 57-year-old is a regular at the pub, where her daughter-in-law is assistant manager, and said the crowd was friendly with some real characters who depend on it as a social hub.

She said a for sale sign had been put up outside the once "beautiful" building but the staff have had no news of when it may shut.

The pub, which is in a prime site near Worcester Park station, underwent a £1m revamp in 2002 but has since become dilapidated and run down.

A spokesman for Spirit Pub Company said the Worcester Park Tavern would remain open for the "short term" and the company would update staff on developments.
