Mugshot sketches sold for charity

Croydon Business Executives Association supported Purley Cancer Care Centre last week by making a donation through unusual means.

The association, which was formed by eight local businesses in January last year, raised funds for the charity when members paid for cartoon sketches of themselves to be drawn by top artist Steve Garner.

South East Cancer Care is located in Tesco at Purley Cross and, since its birth in 1982, it has been helping cancer victims and their families to cope with their situation.

Actress June Whitfield is its vice president.

Croydon Business Executives Association now has 47 members from around Croydon, Purley, Coulsdon, Mitcham and surrounding areas.

The group meets every four weeks on the second Thursday of every month, from 6.30pm to 8.30pm, at Purley Downs Golf Club.

Entry is £15, including drinks and canapes.
