MPs and parents have delivered a petition against Camden Junior School becoming a Harris Academy to the Department for Education.
Nearly 1,300 people signed the petition, which was delivered to education minister Lord Nash on Thursday, along with 237 letters supporting Greenshaw Educational Trust's bid to sponsor the Carshalton school.
A spokesperson for the Keep Camden Local campaign said: "Lord Nash has confirmed that he will take all views into account.
“The message from parents, our MPs, Sutton's secondary schools, the wider community and the council, is that sponsorship by Greenshaw offers the best future for Camden Junior School.
“We hope he will take notice of the strength of opinion locally and the case Greenshaw has made, and appoint Greenshaw as Camden's sponsor."
Last week Sutton Council came out in support of the campaign and backed Greenshaw High School becoming its sponsor.
