Two Cobham schoolchildren have seen their cupcake designs rise to life and tasted the fruits of their imagination.

Kasie Harris, 10, from St Andrew’s Primary School, and Bella Abnett, 9, from Cobham Free School, were crowned the winners of Maison Blanc’s cupcake design competition.

The Holly Parade patisserie asked year 5 and 6 pupils to create a new eye-catching and mouth-watering sweet treat.

Sebastian Boulanger, chief patissier at Maison Blanc, was so impressed with the thought and originality that went into winning designs that he made the cupcakes for the children as a surprise. Kasie’s cupcake was chocolate, vanilla and lemon flavour with a rainbow icing and Bella chose a custard-filled sponge with caramel and chocolate icing.

The schoolgirls were also handed a big celebration cake to take back to school and share with friends.

Suzannah Roach, staff member at Cobham Free School, said: “It was wonderful to see how delighted and impressed the chief patissier was with children’s work.

“I am so proud of them and I know they really enjoyed working on this project, it’s been a wonderful addition to our to our school curriculum.”

Runners up were also chosen from each school.

At St Andrew’s, Ella King, 10, came in second, Gabriella Lowe, 10, in third and Lily Kirkland, 10, came in fourth place, while at Cobham Free School, Evie Oborne, 9, came in second place and Ted Dean, 9, was third.
