A girls' school has scooped an international award which recognised its efforts to bring the world into the classroom.

St Philomena’s Catholic School for Girls received the British Council International School Award for its collaborative work with international partner schools in Uganda, France and Belgium.

The school’s environmental partnership with holiday farm La Ferme Européenne des Enfants, in Normandy, was also recognised by the award collected by Michele Cormack, international co-ordinator, at a ceremony at the Brewery Conference Centre in Moorgate.

Other international events at the school last year included Multicultural Day celebrations, European Day of Languages and Global Enterprise Day. The winners were presented their awards by broadcaster and journalist George Alagiah.

John Rolfe, project manager at British Council, said: “Many congratulations and many thanks on your well-deserved success in being accredited with the award.

"The rich range of work you are doing in the school and across your larger community to support and encourage global citizens with a greater understanding of the world around them is truly fantastic.

“The international dimensions of teaching and learning have been at the heart of the work of the British Council for 75 years and to receive the award in its 10th anniversary year is a special cause for celebration.”
