The dangers of alcohol misuse were explored by pupils from an Epsom school through the medium of live performance theatre.

Year 7 pupils from Rosebury School took take part in a programme which aims to help young people understand the facts, causes, and consequences surrounding under-age drinking and alcohol consumption.

The project - titled Smashed and which is funded by drinks company Diageo - encouraged 11-14 year olds to explore the complex issues surrounding under-age drinking and their perception of alcohol through live performance theatre and interactive workshops.

The programme, developed by Collingwood Learning, included a live performance which reveals the reality of underage drinking and alcohol misuse and equips pupils with the knowledge and skills to make better choices, when they reach legal purchase age.

Andrew Palmer, actor and team leader at Collingwood Learning, said: “This programme really gets to the heart of the problem of underage drinking and misuse by challenging young people’s attitudes towards alcohol.

"It’s fantastic to have the support of Diageo which allows us to reach a large number of young people across the country. We’re delighted with the results of this year’s tour.”
