The future of local journalism will come under the spotlight next Friday, May 14, at a national conference at Kingston University organised by Press Gazette.

With paid-for newspapers in continuing decline, and an explosion in the use of the internet and social media sites, Local Heroes 2010 provides a platform to share success stories from local media around the country and a forum to discuss new ideas about how real journalism at a local level can be safeguarded.

The conference, which coincides with Local Newspaper Week, is a reflection of the emphasis the university has placed on journalism in recent years, which has led to a rapid growth in the number of students on its undergraduate and postgraduate courses.
