Ninety eight students from Lambeth’s secondary schools have been rewarded for outstanding achievements.

The Jack Petchey achievement awards honoured those aged 11 to 25 for a variety of achievements. They were nominated by their peers and leaders and were held at the Lambeth Assembly Hall last month.

Winners, who received medallions to go with their framed certificates and a cheque for £200 for their schools, included Marcus Burke, 15, from Park Campus in West Norwood, who won his award for making a positive contribution to the school after representing it at football and being an ambassador when visitors came.

Ivanna Aleksandrova, 11, from Dunraven School, Streatham Hill, won her award for working extremely hard to help the head of year 7 raise funds for Children in Need while Sellina Luk Tang, 13, who attends Stockwell Park High School, won her award for her outreach work in the community.

The awards scheme provides funding of £21,800 each year to schools in Lambeth and since 1996, £657,000 has been awarded to youth organisations in the borough.

Established in 1999 by Jack Petchey OBE, who is now aged 85, the foundation aims to help develop the potential in young people aged 11 to 25 in London and Essex.
