Teens all over Wandsworth were either celebrating or commiserating after receiving their long awaited A-level results yesterday.

Students went to school at the earliest possible opportunity - or tried to check the University and College Admissions Service (UCAS) website - to find out if they had got the grades to make it into their university course.

Saint Cecilia’s Church of England school in Southfields got a 98 per cent A* to E pass rate, with 73 per cent of entries graded A* to C. More than 50 per cent of all entries were graded at A* to B and 22 per cent of all grades achieved were A* or A grades.

Students George Hudson, Georgina Lee and James Shamsi all achieved two A* grades and one A grade, securing places at Birmingham to study geography, Royal Holloway University to study politics and economics, and Kings College London to study business management.

Headteacher Niall Gallagher said: "We are delighted with our second set of A-level results which provide yet more proof that Saint Cecilia’s provides a consistently outstanding all-through education for young people aged 11 to 18 years.

"The students have worked exceptionally hard and have achieved excellent results which enable them to move forward on their chosen career paths."

Tooting's Graveney School also had cause to celebrate after getting their results.

More than 10 per cent of grades awarded to students were A*, with 20 per cent A and 23 per cent grade B.

Overall, nearly 80 per cent of grades were A* to C and the overall pass rate was 98.1 per cent - achieved by 297 students across 35 subjects.

Thirty-three students achieved grade A or A* in all their exams and many more achieved a combination of A*, A and B grades.

Head of Sixth Form, Tamzin Cronin, said: "The school is delighted with these results, which are a wonderful achievement by our students.

"They reflect the commitment and hard work of our students, their teachers’ dedication and the support of their parents. Congratulations and well done to all concerned."

Burntwood School also performed well with a near perfect A* to E pass rate of 99.8 per cent, with their top performer being Asante Crichlow, whose three A*s and one A grade secured her a place at Cambridge University to read natural sciences.
