School children raised £1,200 when they completed a sponsored run in support of a hospital which treated one of their peers.

Pupils from Westbury House School, Rokeby and Holy Cross School turned out for the cross-country run at Kings College London sports ground, in Windsor Avenue, New Malden on Friday, October 14.

Westbury House School decided to organise the run in support of the Royal Marsden Hospital in Sutton, where one pupil underwent a three year course of chemotherapy.

She has now recovered and took part in the run, which Head teacher Mrs Margaret McSherry said was the best part of the day.

She said: “What was also very strong was the amount of support, help and enthusiasm that was behind everyone.

“It was a wonderful day with blue skies and sunshine. A huge crowd turned out to watch and even the Wimbledon Football Club players were watching from the balcony.

“There was a really good spirit about it all.”
