Streatham MP Chuka Umunna has said the government must come clean on plans to impose academy status on three primary schools in Lambeth.
Mr Umunna asked the Department for Education about the proposals this week but said he had not received a “sufficient” response to his parliamentary questions.
The Minister of State for Schools, Nick Gibb, confirmed the Government intended to explore academy status for three schools in the borough, making them independent of local authority control, but would not say which schools were being considered for the changes.
Mr Umunna has now submitted a Freedom of Information request to find out which establishments might be affected.
He said: “Parents deserve to know all the facts about any proposed top-down interference in our local schools.
“The fact the Government has said three unnamed Lambeth schools might have academy status imposed on them, without reference to local parents or local opinion, is deeply worrying.”
