A Wandsworth course aimed at helping people cope with teenage children has been hailed a success by stressed out parents.

Sixteen parents of temperamental teens attended the 10-week-long course at St Cecilia's School, in Sutherland Grove, Wandsworth.

They learned about dealing with conflict, setting boundaries, communication issues, helping teenagers feel more positive about themselves and to understand the challenges teenagers face.

Parents were also able get in contact with family therapists and life coaches and parents with experience relating effectively to teenagers.

Attendee Caz Liebert, 50, a mother of two children aged 12 and 15, said: "I just feel happier parenting my children. Some situations can be really tricky.

"It’s not what you say, it’s how you say it. It’s the little things that make the difference, family time is a really important time.

"It’s important to let the children know that you see them and hear them."

Mrs Liebert said listening skills and learning how to set boundaries were really useful topics, and the importance of reflecting on your own behaviour and personality.

The course is the first of its kind held by the school.

Another free course is planned for the summer term and is already fully booked, with plans for another in the autumn.

Course organiser, Victoria Gallagher, said: "We hope to get additional funding to be able to keep running the course. We also hope to sell the idea to other schools, promote it and move it on."
