Sutton Council has agreed to add 210 primary school places to its capacity as demand continues to soar across the Borough.

Councillors at the Children, Family and Education Committee on June 21 voted to admit more pupils at four schools from September 2013.

Amy Johnson Primary School in Wallington will grow from 30 to 60 places and The Avenue Primary School in Belmont will increase from 90 to 120 places.

Bandon Hill Primary School, in South Wallington will expand from 60 to 180 pupils and St Mary’s Catholic Infants School in Carshalton will accept 90 pupils, up from 60 previously.

The move follows a consultation period with residents which started in March this year.

Demand for primary places is expected to increase substantially from 14,000 in September 2011 to 17,000 in September 2016.

The expansion in places comes just a week after councillors agreed planned school improvements.
