Pledging in honour of Damilola

Croydon College students have pledged not to carry weapons as part of a tribute to murdered schoolboy Damilola Taylor.

A pledge wall has been placed in the reception of the college which students sign to show their support for a campaign against knives.

Ten-year-old Damilola died after being stabbed in the leg in Peckham in November 2000. Since then his parents have campaigned to highlight the dangers of carrying knives.

One of the first students to add their name to the Wall was 18-year-old Desmond Udi who said: "I wanted to sign the pledge wall because I believe that people need to realise that carrying a knife does not make you a man, but avoiding a fight does. Carrying a knife is not self defence but self destruction."
