While James Haddad's parents await a crucial response from doctors overseas as to where and when their son can undergo
treatment for his life-threatening brain condition, the
fund-raising efforts to get him there continue.
Robert and Sue Haddad are on tender hooks, waiting for impending news from America and Canada, on whether James will be accepted for treatment.
But since we revealed last month that James' inoperable condition had worsened and that the appeal is now urgent, Guardian readers have
dug-deep to help the stricken West Croydon nine-year old.
In the last three weeks, Guardian readers have
donated over £1,700, including a £1,000 cheque from an
anonymous donor. But of equal importance are many cheques and postal orders for £5 and £20, that have helped the total Guardian donations reach £5,550.
James' mother Sue told
the Guardian: "We are really so touched by people's generosity and interest in James' plight. I cannot thank them enough for their efforts, but in our hour of need I urge anyone who can help our son, to give what they can."
The Appeal fund currently stands at just over £20,000, but the target figure of £80,000 needed to fund private treatment and care costs abroad, is still some way off.
A series of fund-raising events have been lined up throughout September, in an urgent bid to raise the money quickly (see next "September Events" for details).
