Croydon Fire Brigade have joined the fund-raising efforts for the James Haddad Appeal, which has now risen above £35,000 for the first time.
Kind-hearted firemen from several Croydon watches will endure an all day rowing marathon in Whitgift Square, Whitgift Centre on Thursday, October 11, for the appeal.
The appeal fund was set up to pay for the West Croydon nine-year-old suffering from an inoperable brain condition, to receive pioneering treatment abroad, meet his care costs and fulfil some of his childhood ambitions.
Last Tuesday, October 1, local brother and sister act LA Zakatek performed at Las Fuentas restaurant in Purley. Over £3,000 was raised, including £2,000 through an auction hosted by Leon Zakatek, with over 200 diners giving generously.
The initial target figure of £80,000 is still some way off but the Haddad family have asked for a break in the fund-raising efforts after the rowing marathon, while they await the results of a new drug treatment James is undergoing.
Robert and Sue said: "We are committed to using every penny raised to find a cure for James, but if these funds are not destined for his recovery, they will be used to help other innocent children suffering from a similar illness."
