A music tour highlighting the perils of knife crime is set to come to Croydon.

Shows for Knife Crime Awareness are due to begin in December, starting in Wales then spreading across the country and eventually arriving in Croydon in spring.

The project is being run by Aled Lewis from Wanac promotions and Linda Evans from Drop-D promotions, both based in South Wales.

After only six weeks’ preparation, the tour has gained the national attention of both the BBC News and Radio 1.

Creator Aled Lewis said: “At the moment we are looking at a couple of clubs in Croydon including the Cartoon Club, in London Road, but nothing is confirmed yet. We plan to start the events off small, at venues with a capacity of about 600 and gradually move up towards arena-size venues.

“Bands will vary from local unsigned acts to some of the largest acts out there. They will be going to schools, youth clubs and community centres to educate people about the problems knife crime causes, through the medium of music.”

More than 150 shows are planned over the 12 months, including two in Croydon. But Mr Lewis, with 20 years in the music business, is keeping quiet about the acts.

He said: “I will be able to tell you more in December but I have been advised not to reveal who will play until then.”
