Two teenagers have been jailed for life for stabbing to death a 15-year-old boy at a party after a row over a mobile phone.

Damian Solobowale, 18, from Gipsy Hill, and Tobi Peters, 17, from Deptford, were told they would serve a minimum of 12 years for the murder of Lyle Tulloch before being considered for parole.

Lyle, who was not a member of any gang, was stabbed 13 times next to a stairwell at a party in Newall House, Southwark, on May 3.

An argument started after Solobowale could not find a mobile phone he had lent to one of Lyle’s friends.

Lyle, from Peckham, became involved and the group continued the argument outside the flat. Solobowale produced a knife – believed to be from the kitchen at the party - and fatally stabbed him in the chest and thigh as he tried to run away.

The mobile phone was never recovered.

Solobowale and Peters were found guilty of murder by a jury in December after a four week trial.

Detective Inspector David Willis, from the Homicide and Serious Crime Command, said the conviction was due to the courage of young witnesses who gave evidence in court.

"This is another tragic example of what can happen when knives are used to settle arguments. Lyle's family and friends have been devastated by his senseless murder.

"Unfortunately as long as young people do not heed the lessons of cases such as this there will be more families like Lyle's.”

He added: “This case also demonstrates that as well as prosecuting anyone found in possession of a knife, we will in cases of murder seek to prosecute all those involved under joint enterprise.

"This places the responsibility on groups of friends to use peer pressure on those that use or carry knives."
