The 26-year-old stabbed to death at a bus stop in Croydon in front of his three-year-old daughter has been named as John Nii Kacsu Abbey.

Mr Abbey, also known as King to his friends, was a boxer from Croydon.

He was fatally stabbed near the Lidl supermarket in London Road, West Croydon on January 29 at 6.15pm as he was making his way to Mayday hospital with his daughter to visit his wife and newborn son.

Mr Abbey was taken to Mayday hospital where he was pronounced dead on at 7.08pm.

A post mortem examination held on Friday, January 30 at Croydon Mortuary gave cause of death as a single stab wound to the heart.

A 22-year-old man has been arrested and remains in custody at a south London police station but officers are renewing their appeals for witnesses.

Police have been given extra time to continue questioning the man who is understood to have handed himself in to a police station on the night of the killing.

An incident room has opened under Detective Chief Inspector Cliff Lyons of the Homicide and Serious Crime Command.

DCI Lyons said: "This was a shocking attack in a public place in the early evening.

“The victim's three year-old daughter was with him when he was attacked, though fortunately she wasn't physically injured.

"His partner had given birth to a son just that morning.

"The investigation is at a very early stage and I'm keeping an open mind about the circumstances of the attack at this point.

"A number of witnesses have already come forward but I believe there are still people with information we need to speak to and I urge those people to get in touch.

"In particular, we need to talk to two teenage boys who were at the bus stop when the incident happened who may have significant information.

“They are described as black, aged between 15 and 20 years old, of slim build and wearing hooded tops."

Anyone with information should call the incident room on 020 8721 4961 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
