A court hearing for a man charged with the murder of John Nii Kacsu Abbey has been heard.

Charles William Acquaah, of Greenside Road, Croydon, appeared before Croydon Magistrates Court today accused of the killing of the Ghanaian boxer.

Mr Abbey, known as King, was on his way to see his newborn son at the Mayday hospital when he was stabbed in the heart.

Mr Abbey's three year old daughter witnessed the attack.

Acquaah was remanded in custody until he appears at the Old Bailey on May 11.

Yesterday Mr Abbey's grieving fiancee Emma Abbort, the mother of two of his four children, visited the scene of his stabbing to pay her respects.

Floral tributes and a candle have been left at the bus stop outside Lidl on London Road, West Croydon, where 26-year-old John Nii Katsu Abbey, known to friends as King, was killed.

Mr Abbey is understood to have had a relationship with another woman with whom he had a three-year-old daughter and who gave birth to a son on the day he was killed.

Ghanaian Mr Abbey was on his way to see his other partner at May Day hospital when he was stabbed.

Mr Abbey, an amateur featherweight boxer who had fought for his country in the 2002 Commonwealth Games in Manchester, was killed on Thursday night from a stab wound to the heart.

A heartfelt message from his son Jaiden read: “I miss you, from your little boxer. To my No1 Daddy. I miss you Daddy. You was the best Daddy in the world. I can’t believe it has happened.”

Another message was from his daughter Lola Rose

It read: “To my No1 Daddy from your sweetie sweetie Lola Rose. Daddy I know you only saw me for three months of my life but I know you love me and will always watch for me. All the best.”

Emma left two bouquets of flowers with touching messages. One read: “Love from Emma your future wife. My darling partner, I love you I will miss you. I will miss all of our ups and downs. You was my No 1. Don’t worry you was at rest now. I love you. I miss you so much you are the love of my life.”

T-shirts with the message “RIP King, Gone but not forgotten” were also at the bus stop.

Police are trying to trace an Asian woman who administered CPR to Mr Abbey just seconds after he was stabbed.

Det Ch Insp Cliff Lyons said: "She was present with John Abbey and his little girl performing CPR on the victim before paramedics arrived. She may have vital information that could help in the investigation."

A 36-year-old and a 39-year-old man are still in custody in connection with the stabbing.
