Purley Fire Station may get an extra fire engine
Purley fire station may get an extra fire engine as part of a restructuring by London Fire Brigade (LFB).
The London Fire and Emergency Planning Authority (LFEPA) need to make £30m worth of savings between April 2013 and 2014, with a further £35m to be saved the following year.
As part of the cuts, it is believed 17 stations have been earmarked for closure, but sources revealed Purley is understood to be one of nine London stations set to benefit from an additional appliance, bringing the station's total to two.
Plans were submitted for the multimillion pound refurbishment of Purley Fire Station last month.
A spokesperson for the LFB said: "There is a target for these savings but the full details will not be known until at least December, when the Government announces its grant to the brigade.
"No decisions about any possible fire station closures have yet to be taken. Before they are, there will be a full public consultation."
