Former Croydon NHS manager writes novel based on her experience

A former hospital worker has written a novel based on her experiences of working in the NHS.

Acklima Akbar of Davidson Road, Croydon, was a nurse and later clinical services manager for Croydon Health Services before retiring early.

Her new book, entitled And Then There Was Swine Flu: The Diary of an NHS Manager, has also been adapted into a video trailer as publishers believe it could translate well into a television series.

Ms Akbar who was awarded a Lifetime Achievement Award in 2009, said: "The stories will resonate with health workers and users, as they continue to take place in hospitals.

"I have tried to inject humour into what took place during a very stressful period in our lives.”

The trailer can be viewed on Youtube and Ms Akbar’s book is available to buy from Croydon bookstores. It can also be downloaded as an ebook from Amazon.
