A council worker made redundant after an unsuccessful job interview the day after she had cancer re-diagnosed will find out next year if she has won her claim for compensation.

Former policy strategy manager Linda Oram is claiming unfair dismissal and disability discrimination, after she lost her job following a restructuring of the chief executive's office.

Croydon Council strenuously deny her claim.

On Wednesday, tribunal judge Michael Zuke reserved judgement until the New Year.

Ms Oram's interview to secure one of two new posts last September took place the day after she was told the mouth cancer she had first had in 2005 had returned.

She claims the interview should have been rescheduled because of the bad news, but accepts she did not ask for it to be moved.

Ms Oram claims prior to the appointment she told her line manager, Martin Ellender, that if she received bad news at the check-up, it could have a negative effect on her performance.

In his tribunal witness statement, Mr Ellender said: "Ms Oram alleges that she had intimated to me that she was concerned that if she received bad news at the check up that it might adversely affect her interview performance. Ms Oram did not say this.

"Ms Oram did not at any point express any concern or anxiety with regard to what I understood to be a routine check-up, or about the impact this might have on the interviewing process.

"Ms Oram did not request a change to the timings of her interview or assessment centre, or give me any reason to believe that one was seriously sought."

Both parties will be sent the judgement within 28 days.
