One of the borough’s finest chamber music ensembles combined with a Dubstep DJ at the New Years Day Parade.

A quintet of brass players from Croydon’s London Mozart Players and DJ Toby Harrison joined forces to produce some Dubzart, a mix of Mozart and dubstep.

The New Years Day parade, now in its 27th year, was televised across the continents to more than 500 TV stations.

Croydon’s entry, named Connecting Cultures, aimed to celebrate the diversity of the town.

More than 500,000 spectators packed the 2.2mile route through the West End of London.

Councillor Lynne Hale, who was leading the project, said: “Many people will have heard of the London Mozart Players and others have no doubt heard of Dubstep - a genre born in a small record store in Croydon’s Surrey Street Market, which has now taken the world by storm.

“Now, blend these two together, put them on a mobile stage with a giant top hat, and that was the basis of Croydon’s performance in the 2013 London Parade on New Year’s Day.”

Paul Archibald, one of the trumpet players from the London Mozart Players, said it was great to see Dubzart make its debut.

He said: “It was a fantastic event and it was good to see so many people there. We got some great feedback about the music which was great as well.”
