A Muslim group were out in force this weekend to clear snow and ease disruption during the cold snap.

Members of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Youth Association came together to clear important public areas in Croydon.

The 15 strong group left their Croydon Mosque on St. James’ Road on Saturday morning and cleared the pathways leading to Croydon University Hospital’s A&E department.

They also swept snow away around the Holy Saviour Church.

Vicar Xavier Soosainayagan, from Holy Saviour Church, said: "They are wonderful people who have the conscience of public property and make sure of peoples' safety to the hospital or to places of worship.

“God bless them always. We love you."

Mubarak Shams, Regional Youth Leader of AMYA Croydon, said: ''This year marks the 100 year centenary of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community in the United Kingdom.

“We take great joy in the fact that we have been running these kinds of initiatives since our arrival in this great country.

''The Prophet Muhammad was sent as a Mercy for the whole of mankind and so we try to seek every opportunity to help others.

“Anyone in need of help during these hazardous conditions can count on our support.''
