A nuisance hotel has been closed down after a string of complaints from neighbours about drug dealing and noise.

Gomers Hotel in Warham Road, south Croydon, was made the subject of a three month closure order at Croydon Magistrates Court on January 17, which means no-one is able to enter or stay at the address.

The court heard there was "persistent nuisance and disorder" at the premises for a number of months and the council took action after neighbours reported drug dealing and complained about noise.

The council is now making arrangements to clear rubbish and broken glass left by the tenants and all costs will be claimed back.

Laurence Kite the hotel owner, has been ordered to pay £6,683.60 in prosecution costs to the council within six months.

Councillor Simon Hoar, cabinet member for community safety and public protection, said: "We are very pleased to have finally secured this closure order.

"This hotel has been the cause of persistent anti-social behaviour and we have previously warned the owner about the need to take urgent action and bring this to a stop.

"Sadly this did not happen, and we had no choice but to pursue this in the courts."
