Croydon youngsters delved into photographs from colonial archives to explore their Caribbean heritage.

Eighteen schoolchildren, aged between eight and 11, researched the region's people, places and traditions through pictures taken from the National Archives Caribbean Through A Lens collection.

They presented their findings at  the Croydon Supplementary Education Project in Sydenham Road on Friday - and even had a diplomatic audience in the form of Wanda Connor, first secretary of St Kitts and Nevis High Commission.

The event was the final in a series of community workships intended to reach out different generations of the local community.
