Hammer-wielding burglars smashed through a door and lurked in wait inside a house before stealing from a resident when he came in.

Two thieves made off a mobile phone after storming into a 47-year-old man's bedroom in Quadrant Road, Thornton Heath and threatening him.

They then demanded his keys to unlock the door and escape after the burglary at 11.05pm on Wednesday February 13.

The burglars were black men, both in their early twenties and around 5ft 8in tall.

One was wearing a black scarf over his face, with a black hoody and black trousers. The second wearing a black puffa jacket, a black scarf and black trousers.

Detective Andy Pike said: "It appears that the suspects were already inside the address when the victim returned home, having probably entered through the back patio door, which was smashed."
