Month-long HIV awareness campaign launched in Croydon
9:00am Sunday 17th March 2013 in Local news
A month long HIV awareness campaign has been launched in Croydon.
Organised by Public Health Croydon in support with Croydon Health Services (CHS), posters and billboards have been placed around Croydon aimed at encouraging people to take an HIV test.
Clinical Lead for Sexual Health, Dr David Phillips said: "HIV is treatable, with an excellent long term prognosis, especially if diagnosed early.
"Unfortunately in Croydon, too many people end up testing too late, by which time they have already become unwell.
"They can still be helped, but earlier testing would have dramatically reduced their risk of suffering ill health and passing on HIV to others."
CHS sexual health centre on London Road offers free and confidential HIV testing. For more information visit thinkhiv.org.uk
