Gang members from Croydon who made thousands of pounds selling guns have been jailed for a total of 22 years.

Anthony Dempster, 33, of South Norwood, and Christopher Bertin, 25, of Addiscombe, sold a shotgun, a handgun and ammunition, and tried to sell another five guns.

They were jailed along with two other members of their gang, 29-year-old Karl McKenzie and 43-year-old Peter Wickham, both from Southwark, at Southwark Croydon Court today.

All four were arrested in April after a lengthy Metropolitan Police investigation.

Officers found £52,480 in cash in a suitcase when they searched Dempster's Denmark Road house.

He was subsequently charged with conspiracy to sell prohibited weapons, conspiracy to supply ammunition and possession of a shotgun.

Bertin, of Dalmally Road, was charged with conspiracy to supply a shotgun.

Both admitted their guilt on July 4.

Dempster was jailed for six years and Bertin was jailed for four.

McKenzie and Wickham, who both admitted conspiracy to supply prohibited weapons and conspiracy to supply ammunition, were each jailed for six years.

Detective Constable Emma Lonsborough, of the Metropolitan Police's Kidnap and Specialist Investigations Unit, said: "Today's sentences show that those involved in the supply of firearms will be dealt with robustly by the courts and is an example of the Met's total commitment to tackling organised crime and reducing the number of guns reaching the streets of London."
