Sex attacker who preyed on drunk woman jailed for seven years
A sex attacker who preyed on a drunk woman leaving her with "extensive injuries", has been jailed for seven years.
Morgan Towner, 37, of Long Lane, Addiscombe, targeted the 54-year-old woman after spotting her in a pub.
Croydon Crown Court heard he led her outside, pushed her over a wall and sexually assaulted her while she lay unconscious.
The dad-of-four had tried to rape the victim, but could not maintain an erection.
Instead he penetrated her with his fingers, leaving her bruised following the attack on February 9, in which he also punched her.
Towner was caught after a witness who lived nearby called the police. Officers who attended found him with his trousers still around his ankles.
Sentencing Towner this morning, Judge Peter Gower said: "This is a particularly serious case of its type.
"I have no doubt that this respectable 54-year-old woman was unaware of what was happening to her and did not play any part in it.
"I am also sure that, despite your significant level of drunkenness, you must have known she was in no position to consent."
Towner, who has two young children, shook his head as Judge Gower imposed a seven-year sentence. Towner's partner left the court in tears.
A jury found Towner guilty of assault by penetration on September 20.
They cleared him of rape after he admitted during the trial that he would have had sex but could not get an erection.
