A doctor has been found dead at his surgery in New Addington.

Richard Bamgboye, a long-serving GP at the Fieldway Medical Centre in Danebury, is thought to have been found by colleagues on Tuesday.

NHS England said it was "extremely saddened" at the death of Mr Bamgbaye, of Shaw Crescent, South Croydon.

It added a cause of death had not yet been established and that support staff and the centre's other GPs were covering his patients.

Staff have opened  a book of condolences at the practice.

Tributes to the doctor, some left by his patients, were also posted on Facebook this afternoon.

Linda Anne Shelley said: "Dr Richard was a lovely man. He always had a smile on his face and time for a chat."

Anita Chong wrote: "I have just heard this sad sad news I cannot believe it! He was such a lovely man."

Natasha Gardner added: "R.I.P Dr Richards he was the best doctor and was the only one I liked to see. Excellent with my kids. Crazy how life can change."

A spokesperson for NHS England London said: "We are extremely saddened by this news and offer our condolences to Dr Bamgboye's family at this time.

"It is too early to comment on the circumstances surrounding Dr Bamboye’s death, and we await the outcome of the post-mortem.

"Our priority is ensuring services for patients continue to be provided, and this is currently being done by the existing salaried GPs and support staff at the practice.

"NHS England will be considering future provision of primary care medical services with stakeholders including patients over the next 28 days."
